Grace: i’ve been talking to my friend about the prosperity gospel

Grace: he said
Grace: “hmm don’t most pastors preach on some version of this: your generous giving will increase the blessings that the lord pours out upon you.”

when i think about this, that this is somehow often what we pastors preach, whether intentionally or not, i shudder to think that salvation and the Christian life is anything about what we’ve done to earn it. it is never about what we do, it is always and has always been by what God has done. yes we are to live in a certain way, but that is out our thankfulness for what God has done for us. it’s a sobering reminder to preach the gospel without any word in front of it, be it prosperity or anything else…the message is and always should be: “Jesus loves you”
